Having more than 40 km/25 mi of sandy beaches of great natural beauty in its neighbourhood, and some 300 hundred picturesque half-timbered houses, Ystad is one of the prettiest small towns in Sweden. Just to be here on a warm summer day, bathing and relaxing on one of the beaches, or sitting at one of the many outdoor establishments enjoying a meal with good friends, is unforgettable.

Wallander - the prominent citizen of Ystad

This charming little town in the southern part of Sweden enclose some 27,000 inhabitants living in the town itself, or in the small villages around. However, no one is today more famous than a fictional citizen of Ystad - detective Kurt Wallander, the protagonist in popular crime series written by swedish author Henning Mankell.

Thanks to successfully developed tourist industry built around Wallander character, Ystad took home 2009 Swedish Grand Tourism Award.

Solve the mystery of Ale's Stones

In Kåseberga, approx. 14 km/9 mi east of Ystad, you will find one of the biggest attractions in Sweden - the megalithic Ale's Stones. The purpose and provenience of this magnificent stone formation shaped as a ship is still to be established. A job for someone as good as Wallander, perhaps?
